I'm excited to introduce GigFish 🐟—a platform I built to help people find flexible gig work, side hustles, and remote contract jobs that fit their lifestyle.
As a self-employed dev (and aspiring, but penniless Indie Hacker), I've been working remotely part-time to train AI models. It's a decent gig and helps make ends meet. As I was scrolling through the community subreddit one night, I came across multiple people making posts, asking if anyone knew alternatives to the platform. As days went by, I noticed people asking this over and over. I had the idea to make a spreadsheet to share each time anyone asked, but never actually took the initiative.
A few weeks later, I found myself listening to and watching a ton of solo dev success stories. Pieter Levels was on Lex Fridman's podcast and Marc Lou was all over my Twitter feed. I then decided to start coding again for the first time in months. I expanded upon my original idea to make a list of AI training gigs and extended it to all gigs: anything that isn't a full time job that requires you to clock in at a specific time.
How I made it:
1️⃣ Aggregated Listings: I collect and display gigs I've found across dozens of sources to create a one-stop shop for people looking for work that isn't full-time (there are enough job boards for that).
2️⃣ Company Profiles and User Reviews: Each company has a profile page that includes relevant info about qualifications you'll need to get started. Users can rate and review gigs to help others find the best opportunities.
3️⃣ Categories and Filters: I’ve created intuitive search filters so you can quickly find jobs based on your preferences. If you're not sure where to start, you can begin at the categories page to see what type of gigs are available and go from there.
4️⃣ Blog: I created a blog to publish content once or twice a month to highlight the best gigs available or those that I've tried personally.
In a time when job hunting has become more competitive than ever, with entry-level roles requiring more experience and applicants facing increasing rejection, gig work offers a lifeline; a low barrier opportunity to earn income, and explore alternative career paths. It’s a chance to take control, maybe gain some valuable experience, and bridge the gap while pursuing long-term goals. I believe gig work should be more accessible to everyone, and I hope GigFish helps you reel in some great opportunities! 🎣
